What is hCG?
hCG stands for Human Chronic Gonadotropin. This hormone is found in the human body and is most abundant in the body of a pregnant woman. It is the first chemical to rise when a woman is pregnant, it can be detected with simple at-home pregnancy test strips. During pregnancy, a woman’s body makes millions of units of hcg.
How does hCG work?
hCG, used in very small doses and combined with a specific, very low calorie diet, has the effect of primarily using the body’s fat stores for fuel rather than using the calories from food eaten throughout the day. The specific very low- calorie diet does not contain enough calories to meet the daily calorie needs of an adult, so the body makes up for the lack of calories by using the excess, stored fat as fuel for the body’s metabolic needs.
In a pregnant woman (who makes way more hCG than is used in this weight loss program), hCG keeps fat in her blood as fuel source for the woman and her growing baby. In overweight and obese people, a tiny amount of hCG mobilizes the stored fat and the body burns this fat as a fuel source, rather than fats from food and carbohydrates.
The benefit of hCG is that the body targets excess fat from upper thighs and around the midriff. Fats and carbohydrates are a much quicker source of fuel for the body’s metabolism. During the hCG program, the body stays in a sustained state of burning this excess fat rather than depending upon carbohydrates for fuel.
